Pre-consultation:

  • Receive and review “Module 1 – Overview” on obesity and surgery options.
  • Get a blood test (form provided) to check for deficiencies.

Initial consultations:

  • Meet with Mr. Jon Morrow (bariatric surgeon) to discuss your suitability and surgical options.
  • Schedule additional appointments with our dietitian, and our wellness coach.

Pre-op appointments:

  • Meet with your dietitian to discuss pre- and post-surgery diet, including the Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD).
  • Work with our wellness coach to set goals and receive a personalised fitness program.
  • Psychological assessment may be recommended.

Pre-surgery:

  • Start the VLCD pre-op diet up to 4 weeks before surgery.
  • Pay the surgical package fee and receive hospital arrival time one week before.
  • Discuss anesthesia with Dr. Harper or Dr. Afsari the day before surgery.

Surgery day:

  • Your gastric sleeve will be performed either at Kakariki Hospital or Endoscopy Auckland.
  • Follow pre-surgery procedures in admissions and pre-op area.
  • Meet with Mr. Morrow and Dr. Harper/Dr Afsari for final questions and consent.

Recovery and follow-up:

  • Gradually progress to soup broth and pureed foods after surgery.
  • Start using the incentive spirometer and begin gentle movement around the ward.
  • Receive daily motivational text messages for 2 years.
  • Discharge on day two with medication for pain, Nausea, and other issues.

Post-operative follow-up:

  • Follow-up calls and appointments in the first few weeks.
  • Transition to a soft diet in week three.
  • Resume normal activities gradually in week four.
  • Regular follow-up appointments with dietitian, wellness coach, nurse specialist, and psychologist for two years (included in package).
  • Lifelong monitoring for deficiencies and complications with your chosen healthcare provider.
